I will conclude my opinion by saying this that for me if there is a loop whole we should take advantage of it. Even if PAF likes to get its hands on J 16 they should go for it just call it J 15 in contract and in official terms, but Mirages should go. Mirages are 53 years old and there is limit to how much you can upgrade a 53 year old machine. They have done their job just retire them it's not smart to loose pilots for 53 year old machine. Yes money is issue but with China we can discuss some terms as it's getting clear in past two months that we are pretty much China's only ally.

Bro we haven't retired our F7s and you are taking about retiring Mirages. Which is our main and only bomber fighter jet. We still have 100+ F7s and 170+ Mirages(excluding the Egyptian ones). Even if we plan to replace all these jets with JF-17s then it would take us at least more than 8 years to do it. Secondly JF-17 is not a good replacement of Mirage as it has only 4 hardpoints after the attachment of fuel tanks out of which two wing tip hardpoints are quite useless as they can not carry BVR or any a2g load.

F 7 will get retired the moment JF 17 is ready. I mean every new squadron will lead to retirement of a F 7 squadron. That is not happening or not fully happening with MIRAGES. Even when JF 17 number crosses 200 all MIRAGES won't be retired. Because PAF doesn't consider JF 17 as true replacement of MIRAGES as deep strike jets. That is not the case with F 7

Interesting reply want to share from elsewhere. Mirage Battle Commander on a potential J-15 purchase:

2 big squadron to support the south eastern front as Air superiority fighter's with JF-17 being the work horse while F-16's are focusing on the north eastern and eastern fronts will force the Indian's to come there knees. Twin in PAF will be as big of a move as PAF purchasing the first F-16's in the 80's- Twins will be phenomenal and will compliment Jf-17 like icing on cake.
