Actually yes... Balloons. Deploy Air Balloons at strategic ingress areas, that will make the planes climb up.
But not applicable on sea approaches.
I recall in the very first (pilot) episode of the hit 80s TV series airwolf, the flight testing crew of airwolf Mach 1+ helicopter pull up n climb to a higher altitude to avoid in a Soviet simulated combat environment, wat they call WIRES!
Is that now an obsolete tech or if learned men could shed some light on this if still applicable.

Well that was a movie, but technically canyons could be closed using wires. But some helicopters do posses wire cutters, so...

Balloons were used from WW2 onwards till a few decades ago, as a low cost way of closing airspace, as seen below.

What I was talking about was the L-88 tethered balloon radar.

Hi,

Off course high tension wires work---but we are talking about standoff weapons from stand off ranges---.

Aircraft pops up from a distance---releases its assets and dives down and is gone---.

So how does one catch low flying aircrafts? :)

Khafee,

If my information is correct---an aircraft flying at 500 ft above the waves and 450 miles paralell to the enemy coastline---the enemy awacs would have to come out about 250 miles and the awacs would be flying at an altitude of 40000 feet to find the low flying air crafts---.

" So, at 10,000 feet you can see 122 miles, at 30,000 feet you can see 211 miles, and at 40,000 feet you can see 244 miles. Of course, if you look "above" the horizon, you can see the sun at 93,000,000 miles and at night, even further, to the stars ".

Khafee,

I think GCC needs to invest more in naval air combat flight & strike tactics and so does Paf---.

There is a reason why the US does not use its air force for naval missions---it has its own naval air force---.

Fighting over water is a different war game and planning---. Being Land animals---fighting over land---the combat tactics and training comes to us naturally---.

Fighting over water is a different kind of beast---with its own different set of rules and combat training and tactics and strike options---.

Gentlemen @Mastankhan & @Khafee , May I please ask your opinion about PN helicopter choices for frigate/corvette. I think they need something better than z-9. Any ideas or hints ?
AW101 was "looked at" no news after that.
