Turkish forces who launched multiple artillery rounds near a U.S. Special Operations outpost in northeastern Syria on Friday have known for months that Americans were there, according to four current and former U.S. officials, raising questions whether Turkey is trying to push American troops farther from the border.
The incursion has focused on an area 60 miles to the west of Kobane, but U.S. officials believe Turkey has long-term aspirations to control a much larger swath of Syria.

How is it not a good idea? Bayraktars and Anka alone armed with ATGMs would offer great CAS for FSA, and Turkish army even without F-16s. If Turkey can let 3 million Syrian refugees back to their lands I'm all for it.

I think it's a bad idea, in the long run. I don't think they plan on relinquishing the land they take, and they will face a long insurgency

Cairo - The UAE has called upon Turkey and all other foreign forces to withdraw from Syria and to seek a political solution.

The UAE also stated that the minimum action incumbent upon Arab countries is the adoption of a firm response to aggression against any Arab country, which is seen as aggression against the national security of all Arab states.

This came in a speech delivered on Saturday by Dr. Anwar Bin Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who headed the UAE delegation at the emergency meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers held at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.
The meeting, which took place in the presence of Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul Gheit and was chaired by representatives of the Republic of Iraq, discussed means to counter the Turkish aggression on Syrian territory.
"We meet today while our [Arab] nation is facing unprecedented challenges and the region is going through volatile times that require us to deal with them in a reasonable manner. We meet at a time when some regional parties have resorted to reckless behaviour that threatens the unity and sovereignty of a brotherly Arab country."

Dr. Gargash said the Turkish assault on northeast Syria represents flagrant aggression against the sovereignty of a fellow Arab country and exploitation of the conditions that country is currently facing in contravention of all relevant international laws and norms and in a bid to destabilise the region.
Dr. Gargash called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibility in taking a firm stance against this aggression by demanding a withdrawal of Turkish and other foreign forces from Syrian territory and by focusing instead on political solution as the only way to end the Syrian crisis.
Turkish-led forces pursue assault
Turkish forces targeted areas around two Syrian border towns with fresh shelling on Sunday, pressing on with their offensive against Kurdish militia for a fifth day in the face of fierce international opposition.
Turkey is facing threats of possible sanctions from the United States unless it calls off the incursion, while the Arab League has denounced the operation and NATO allies Germany and France said they were halting weapons exports to Turkey.

Ankara launched the cross-border assault against the YPG militia after US President Donald Trump withdrew some US troops from the border region.
Turkey says the YPG is a terrorist group aligned with Kurdish militants in Turkey.
Dr. Gargash called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibility in taking a firm stance against this aggression by demanding a withdrawal of Turkish and other foreign forces from Syrian territory and by focusing instead on political solution as the only way to end the Syrian crisis.

Turkey would stomp on Russia, and Syria combined at least with current Russian resources in Syria.

I don't know about that, I don't think Russia and Turkey want to get into an confrontation. Russia does a adequate job of providing support to the SAA with the deployed resources they have. And they have missile defense systems deployed to protect their assets. They are also on relatively good terms with Turkey and so is Turkey on good terms with them.

Kurds should just cooperate with the opposition. The opposition was never against them and never held a grudge against them.

That's interesting that our officials believe that. Are they speaking off of intelligence or? This is no doubt an opportunity for Turkey to regain some territory for the Syrian opposition. And this time they should not pull out of safe zone. Remain there to allow safe return of refugees and help arm/train the opposition.

Reliable source(Hezbollah official media) close to the Syrian government says the Syrian army will enter Manbij and Ayn Al Arab(Kobane) within 48 hours. This suggests Kurds and Assad led government reached an agreement:

News is wrong, it was an IED explosion and not a coalition air strike.
..
..

This situation can get pretty ugly. Turkey/Rebels and SAA/Iran/Russia are racing to take over Manbij/Kobane too.

AKCAKALE, Turkey (AP) — Syrian government troops will deploy along the border with Turkey to help Kurdish fighters fend off Turkey’s invasion of northern Syria, the Kurds said Sunday, hours after President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. troops to withdraw from the area to avoid getting caught in the middle of the fast-escalating conflict.

The announcement represents a major shift in alliances for Syria’s Kurds after they were abandoned by the U.S., with whom they were longtime partners in the fight against the Islamic State group.

Adding to the turmoil, hundreds of Islamic State families and supporters escaped from a holding camp in northern Syria amid heavy clashes between Turkish forces and the Kurds.

There's no such thing as an 'Islamic state family'. They are just civilians related to ISIS members. ISIS is a brutal militia like the PKK militias and Syrian regime, Iranian militias, etc.... There is no difference whatsoever that will occur because of some civilians. All the danger in Syria is from Assad/Iran regimes. They are going to threaten Turkey in the near future if Turkey withdraws from Idlib/Northern areas of Syria. While also threatening Saudi Arabia. And the world is onboard and supporting Iran's destructive policies in Sunni nations in the region.

I have seen no sign from the world that they seek to put an end to Iran's policies. They are just strengthening Iran , the Kurds and Israel. Which is dangerous for the region. As those three entities are very expansionist and use tool of war as plan A.

Things are changing fast and the US needs to develop new approach to the ME. It needs to support Sunnis of region against major threats of Israel and Iran. Israel's presence is the reason all its Arab neighbors are very weak as US refuses to sell them advanced weaponry and wants them to play a follower role instead of being proactive. And Iran(with its allies) are trying to conquer the whole Middle East. The region mostly belongs to Sunni Muslims and the US should support them all the way against Israel and Iran. US and Russia can't control Israel and Iran and this is going to prove deadly for the near future.

Iran and Israel are unhinged actors given too much power by the world and seek to subjugate the Sunni Muslim majority of the region under their dominance at any cost. These unhinged actors along with their support from superpowers and regional powers like US/EU/Russia are enabling them to wreak havoc across the region for their selfish interests at expense of majority in region. If world powers don't stop supporting the quest for dominance of these two countries in the region, then we will see world war three erupt in the Middle East by 2022 at the latest.

The world must stop supporting these two unhinged mega terrorist actors that are going to burn the whole world down. Sunni Muslims of region need to make an alliance with whatever powers they can find, on the basis of confronting the Iranian/Israeli threat to the region.

..
..

Turks are going to see the true face of Iran and its allies soon. They are going to lie about their agreement with Turkey and try pushing Turkey out of Syria. The world will support them in war against Turkey and Saudi Arabia. While Israel will do some military operations in Egypt/Gaza/Jordan/Saudi Arabia to create buffer zones for themselves. And people in the region are finally going to recognize they can't ignore reality and have to confront the Iranian and Israeli existential threats.
