When will Indonesia initiate its own fighter jet project? I know that it has the proper infrastructure for aviation and has already manufactured transport aircrafts but why fighter jets? At least in JV with other countries.

Dear brother

If i'm not mistaken just a few months ago you already ask the same questions, right? page 4 IINM
But, it's okay I'll be happy to answer your question again, perhaps some others new members here still didn't know much about this.

a JV Indonesia - South Korea for I-FX and K-FX generation 4.5++ fighters is already underway now. And as much as 300 Indonesian aeronautics engineer already in SK for study and help it's process.

As we knows there's a big difference between commercial production and military production facility in term of technology.

As result for this projects, a new military grade production facility for I-FX fighter jets at Indonesian Aerospace. Bandung East Java are currently under construction.

There's so many technology and infrastructure we must learn and prepares before stepping into production phase. Even our South Korean partner with more advance research and production facility due their experience in building T/A-50 fighter trainer JV with Lokheed Martin still struggles in wind tunnels test and many more includes 4 core technologies in which U.S.Govt refuse to give for this projects.

The same apply to our submarine production facilities in which still underconstruction also as I write this.

Thats because our local shipyard that currently build Sigma 10514 frigates are not yet capable enough to build something more advanced and full of complexity such as SSK submarines.

2nd PKR Sigma 10514 (332) soon to be ready for launch

Mastering this technologies can't happen overnight. Maybe it took a decades for a developing country like indonesia. But at least we already start it now with everything we had.

In the future maybe 10 or 20 years from now when you see a post about Indonesian fighters or submarines. You'll knows how long it will take to achieve that goal.

we crawl before we can walk, and we walk before we run

I do apologize my brother I think I have not read your post entirely and or skimmed through really quick. Thanks for the information given and I do wish the best for Indonesia with this project. Is there a deadline put for this project?

It's ok. never mind bro. no need to apologies. It's my pleasure to have a good discussions with you and everyone's here :)

Is there a deadline put for this project?
Our target for both facilities should be completed by the end of this year and start to operational as scheduled. However for I-FX fighter this is our stategic long term programme, so its depend with many aspect such as political stability, economy, regional issue also can be affected to the deadline of this project. As for submarines productions we should be able to start in January 2017 according to previous PT.PAL director. At least everythings still right on track. But I doubt it will be finished on scheduled.

Indonesia’s needs for wheeled armoured personnel carriers are a total of 55 units. The armored vehicles are for the Marines, to replace the aging Indonesian BTR-50.

The new version of BTR-4M have Deutz engine and received the upgrade package giving it fully amphibious capabilities. The new armoured amphibious vehicle can swim at sea and negotiate inland water obstacles without any configuration changes

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has launched 1,400-ton diesel submarine built for Indonesia in South Korea.

The submarine is the second of the three submarines being built under a 2011 deal worth US$1.1 billion, Yonhap News Agency reported today.

In March, the shipbuilder had a launching ceremony for the first submarine, said Yoon Yo-han, a spokesman for Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering held a ceremony for the second submarine at its shipyard in Geoje Island, close to the country's southeastern port city of Busan, he said.

The shipbuilder is set to deliver the first and second submarines to Indonesia in March and October next year, respectively. The third submarine is scheduled to be delivered to the Southeast Asian country in 2018, Yoon said.

The submarines, modified version of the Chang Bogo class currently in service in the South Korean Navy, now can travels 18,520 kilometers (10.000 nautical miles) without a port call, it's twice the distance from Busan to Los Angeles.
