JF 17 Thunder fighter jet production boosted in China

Production rate of the JF-17 combat jet has been ramped up with China and Pakistan managing to reduce production period of each jet by 15 days.
A report published by China Aviation News affiliated with state-owned AVIC company today stated: “Production line of the JF-17 has on average shortened the production period of a single aircraft by 15 days compared to last year.”

The aircraft was developed by China’s Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group and Pakistan’s Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC).

Although the report did not specify the exact number of JF-17s produced this year, PAC Kamra announced in January 2020 that it built 8 dual-seat JF-17 aircraft in five months. Considering that the jets are manufactured at Chengdu facilities in China, the number would be higher.

In December last year, the latest iteration of the jet, the JF-17 Block III, took to the skies for the first time.

According to state media, the jet features technologies from China’s J-20 stealth fighter jet and upgrades in electronic devices that will significantly increase its combat efficiency. These include a large holographic wide-angle head-up display and integrated cockpit display besides an advanced infrared missile approach warning system used in the J-20 fighter jets.

The JF-17 Block III has garnered considerable attention from potential buyers mainly due to its headline features- a Chinese active electronically scanning array (AESA) radar, the latest targeting and electronic warfare systems analogous to those found on much more expensive aircraft such as the F-16 and Jas 39 Gripen.

The jet also reportedly packs information-based warfare capability and upgraded weapons. It has an upgraded engine which will allow it to go farther, ability to engage some 30 targets simultaneously and will be equipped with more ordnance over the JF-17 Block II.

What parts of JF-17 are produced in Pakistan ? There are always Indians on every JF-17 posts saying that JF-17 is only assembled in Pakistan and there seems to be no information on google except one line on wikipedia "52% of airframe is made by Pakistan and 48% by China/Russia"

There are different levels of assembly. example the airframe profiles are made in China but put together and tested in Pakistan.
Electronic computers made in China but SW loaded, tested and commissioned in Pakistan. Same goes with each wire, instrument and screw. Those are made in China in different industries but than assembled in Pakistan. If CATIC produce jF17 it will also be assembling in same way.
major components like engine, radar, ejection seat etc. are any way third party products.
Having said that, the aircraft it self is a joint PAF & CATIC design engineering and Indians are 50 year behind to attain that level.

In case of TEJA they have hired foreign consultants in history from France, US to be able to have a working design.

I actually heard it from someone on twitter , I am actually doing CA (CAF) for sometime now ?? and after 27 feb got really
interested in Pakistan defence so kuch kuch mahinay baat jhatka lagta hai to defence se related info google karna shuru kar deta hun ?

Hi,

The information that you heard is incorrect---. The aesa system installed in the JF17 would be fully functional with the power that is available to the unit ---why---because it is designed to function at 100% capacity with the given power...

I have a toyota prius---its A/C works as good as any larger car that has a much bigger engine and five times more HP---.

Modern day machines are way beyond the hammer and chiesel type of technology---.

JF-17 production rate is about 24 / 25 aircraft per batch, annual production. I believe we will see Block 3s by October / November, handed over to the PAF.

Hi, JF-17s are not built on an assembly line. What you are imagining is called mass production, JF-17s are built in a batch process. There is no place in China where JF-17s are being built 100%, they have to get parts from Pakistan to make it happen.

Presently, JF-17 Block 3s are being made at PAC Kamra.

Are we speaking delivery of 2 units or a squadron of block-IIIs by October/November this year?
