Jahangir Tareen used to pay up to Rs5 million to run Imran Khan's house, claims Wajihuddin

A former PTI member, retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed, has claimed that the now-estranged PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen used to provide funds of up to Rs3 million per month for now-Prime Minister Imran Khan's household expenses.

Ahmed, who had resigned from the PTI five years ago after developing serious differences with PTI chief Imran Khan, made the claim while speaking on Bol news programme 'Tabdeeli', but offered no proof for the same.
"This belief is entirely false that Imran Khan is a [financially] honest man," Ahmed said. "His condition is such that he hasn't been running his household himself for years."

"In the start, the Jahangir Tareen group used to pay Rs3 million monthly to run his house," he claimed, adding that the amount was later increased to Rs5m after it was determined that Rs3m were not enough for the PTI chief's palatial Banigala residence.

He further said certain people within the party would try to outdo each other in footing the bills for things like keeping Imran's car fuel tank and "keeping his pocket full at all times".

The former supreme court judge then quoted an unnamed PTI leader as saying: "How can a man whose shoelaces are not even his own call himself righteous?"

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill rubbished Ahmed's claim as "completely false and illogical".

"Whoever knows Imran Khan, knows his honesty and dignity. Wajih sahib often makes illogical remarks such as these in despair over being expelled from the party," he tweeted.

At a press conference, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said: "Jokers like retired Justice Wajihuddin say things like these to increase their importance. Such people are not recognised by their families either so there is no need to pay much attention to them."

Ahmed had formally resigned from the PTI in September 2016.

He had served as the party's election tribunal head. He was tasked to head a commission in 2013 to investigate "irregularities" in the PTI's intra-party elections that took place before the general elections in the same year.

The retired justice developed differences with the party leadership over implementation of the recommendations made by the tribunal.

His party membership had been suspended in 2015, after which he presented a seven-point charter calling for the ouster of Jahangir Tareen, Pervaiz Khattak, Aleem Khan and Nadir Leghari from the PTI.

He alleged that the party was being run like a mafia without any institutional checks and balances.

Pakistan will have no gas in a few years, says Fawad Chaudhry

Published December 14, 2021
Updated about 2 hours ago

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday warned of an impending gas crisis in the country, saying the resource was depleting fast and "Pakistan will have no gas in years to come."

Addressing a post-cabinet meeting press conference, the minister raised alarm over gas going scarce in the country and said it was depleting by 9 per cent every year for the last two years.

"Gas is available in big cities to 23pc people at subsidised rates and its burden is being borne by 78pc people in other parts of the country who rely on LPG, coal and other means," the minister said.

Chaudhry stressed that people getting gas at cheaper rates in big cities should now change their habits. "This trend will not continue for long anymore".

He said the government would have to restructure its gas system to ensure to equal supply to everyone.

The minister said an uninterrupted supply of gas to industries also resulted in sizable urea production.

He also informed that a Sugar Sector Reform Committee report was being released today containing several proposals, including its deregulation, to minimise the government's role in price-fixing. "The report will now be available for public debate before any final decision is taken," he added.

Change in currency notes

The minister also told the presser that the State Bank of Pakistan had sought a six-year extension for the replacement of currency notes of Rs10, 50, 100 and 1000, however, the cabinet had granted only a 12-month extension.
"Those who want to get currency notes changed should get it done in a year," he added.

Committee for Gwadar issues

Apprising of the government's measures to deal with the Gwadar protest, Chaudhry said the cabinet had nominated two federal ministers, Asad Umar and Zubaida Jalal, who will visit the port city on behalf of the premier and try to resolve the matter.
"They will talk to the protesters as the prime minister has already taken notice and ordered resolution of the issue," he said.
This Fatman is the biggest curse on country.

Honest or not, but he’s least qualified to be PM of Pakistan.
Looking at his behavioral and character attributes, he’s not the one who can be entrusted with state affairs.

Sir, i have a question. If the natural gas is not enough to fullfil the required quantity for national demand and they can't import the LNG due to expensive price.
Why they are not educating and supporting the commons on bio gas. In Pakistan we have almost 5th largest live stock of animal in the world. And still we can't produce bio gas in a sufficient quantity and that is much cheaper than our estimate. Bio gas is very simple in generation and efficient in use, still we lack the government interest . That's so strange for me.it means LPG mafia has strong hold in this government??

for that the feed-stock required is personally consumed by the ruling elite, hence the increase in methane gas output from Islamabad.

Sir , even we can produce gas with coal buried in Thar desert. That coal is perfect for gasification. That lignite coal is best for gas generation. And that deposit is over 9000 square kilometres, with an estimate quantity over 175 billion tons worth 400 billion US dollars. But still we are beggars.

KARACHI: At least 14 people were killed and more than a dozen others injured on Saturday in a blast that took place at Paracha Chowk in the city's Shershah neigbourhood.

PTI MNA Alamgir Khan's father is among those to have died in the explosion, PTI-Karachi President MPA Khurram Sher Zaman confirmed, as fears of increasing casualties remain with the search and rescue operation underway.

Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Accident Emergency and Trauma Centre Trauma Centre head Dr Sabir Memon said that the total number of bodies they received was 14.

Police say gas caused blast, SSGC differs

A spokesperson for the Karachi Police, quoting the bomb disposal unit's report, said the blast took place in a gas pipeline running through a nullah located in the area, causing immense damage to the building of a private bank that was constructed atop it.

The spokesperson noted that so far, there was no lead suggesting that the blast might be linked to terrorism.

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), in a statement, said that its team had confirmed that there was "no SSGC gas pipeline" in the area. "The gas pipelines installed in the area are safe and they have not incurred any damage."

Referring to the BDU's report, the SSGC said that it had declared a blast in the sewerage line as the reason for the explosion.

"It is important to note that neither were flames visible nor was there any smell of natural gas in the area — which is a clear indication that the blast is not linked to any of SSGC's pipelines," it added.

Police investigation

DIG South Kharal said police have obtained CCTV footage of nearby places — the bank and an office.

The police official said that a forensics team also obtained samples from the debris, and that the overall scope of the investigation had been extended.

"A clearer picture of what happened will be before us by tonight," he added.

Eyewitness accounts

Eyewitnesses on the spot claimed that many people were buried underneath the debris of the building.

An eyewitness, speaking to Geo News, said that since it is a Saturday, only nine employees of the bank were reporting for duty.

He said the bank was about to shift to a new place but it was "our bad luck" that the blast took place before the branch could be shifted to the new location.

The eyewitness said that there were a few bank customers who were buried beneath the debris as well.

Another eyewitness spoke to Geo News and said that he was having petrol filled in his motorcycle when the blast took place.

He said he saw a few people fall into the nullah underneath the building when the blast took place.

Second blast

During the rescue and search operation, a second blast took place when a few electric wires, which were being taken down, collided with a gas line.

No loss of life was reported in the second blast.

CM Sindh orders inquiry

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the commissioner Karachi to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report over its findings, a spokesperson of the chief minister said.

“Police officers should be included in the inquiry so that all aspects [of the blast] can be investigated, " the chief minister said, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the blast.

CM Shah issued instructions to the secretary of health to provide necessary facilities to the injured at the Civil Hospital immediately.
