Iraqi military forces and Shitte militias entered central Tikrit, declaring it “liberated” from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Tuesday, following 10 days of a major offensive on the hometown of former president Saddam Hussein.

Marwan al-Jabara, a tribal spokesman in the Salaheddin province, told Al Arabiya News Channel that the forces managed to reach the center of Tikrit after heavy clashes in which “dozens of ISIS militants were killed.”

An unmanned Iraqi major general told AFP earlier: “We are now doing combat missions to cleanse the neighborhood of Qadisiyah.”

Al Arabiya reported on Tuesday that Iraqi forces took control of Tikrit military hospital, which is close the center of the city, a report confirmed by the major general who spoke to AFP.

“But we are engaging in a very delicate battle because we are not facing fighters on the ground, we are facing booby-trapped terrain and sniper fire. Our movement is slow,” the senior officer said.

The officer also said the forces that entered Qadisiyah on Wednesday morning included army and police, as well as members of the large volunteer force called Popular Mobilization units.

Iraqi forces have been closing in for days but had largely refrained from entering the city, launching only small-scale operations on the edges of Tikrit and laying siege to it.

Several other military and political sources confirmed that Iraqi forces had retaken control of a significant part of Qadisiyah, a large neighborhood stretching north of the city center.

Forces fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have cut critical communication and supply lines used by the extremists between Syria and Iraq after a two-week operation, AFP quoted the U.S.-led coalition as saying late Tuesday.

Backed by air strikes, the forces “overcame ISIL [ISIS] resistance” in northeastern Syria near the strategic town of Tal Hamis – once an ISIS stronghold – and “denied the terrorist group its freedom of maneuver in the area,” the Combined Joint Task Force said in a statement.

During the operation, which ended Saturday, ISIS lost access to primary travel routes it has previously used to move personnel and materials into Iraq.

“Anti-ISIL forces were able to seize critical portions of route 47 in Syria, a key ISIL communications and supply line leading into Iraq,” it added, noting that 94 villages were freed from the clutches of the extremists.

The coalition said “multiple” ISIS weapons systems, vehicles and fighting positions were also destroyed.

“This operation demonstrated the ability of anti-ISIL forces to further degrade Daesh influence in this region,” Combined Joint Task Force commander Lt. Gen. James Terry said in a statement, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS, which commands vast areas of Iraq and Syria.

“The determination of these anti-ISIL forces and our precision air strikes enabled us to deny Daesh this key terrain in Syria.”

Kurdish forces seized Tal Hamis on Feb. 27 with the help of Arab fighters, but fighting then continued in the area.

This makes a whole lot of sense, if you think about it. The general population will eventually overcome their fear of ISIS and revolt against them, hopefully helping foreign forces eradicate this violent blight.

I see that you guys are amazed by the fact that they destroy some very precious and semnificant artifacts, or even ancient cities as we can see. But, to be honest, I'm even more ameazed by the fact that no one seems to do something to stop this vandals. How much damages should they make untill the world realizes that they will not stop?

The Iraqi and Iranian militia have been slowly taking back their country. I am glad to hear it. It will make things harder for ISIS and is definitely delivering a major kick to their pants. LMAO

It makes me so sad to see that they are destroying these beautiful monuments to the ancient world. As an artist it is hard to see someone destroying things of such beauty. However we have to keep in perspective that not only is ISIS destroying these ancient cities but they are destroying human lives as well.

Destruction of history of any sort is sad. I can't image how much we have already lost because of the destruction due to war in the past, to think we are still losing history over stupidity even to this day is incomprehensible.

Good. As a Muslim I'm happy. It is these people that give our noble and peaceful religion a bad name. I hope there are more successful attacks like this.

Isis calls on 'brothers' to kill 100 US military personnel named on 'death list'

Isis has urged its American sympathisers to kill 100 US military personnel whose names, addresses and photos were posted on a “death list” online.

The list was posted by the self-styled “Islamic State Hacking Division”, who claimed they hacked into a number of military servers and databases to retrieve the information.

This was refuted by a US defence department official, who said the majority of the information could be found publicly, the New York Times reported.

It appears that most of the individuals on the list are those who have been involved in bombing raids on the militant group.

The post included a message in English, which read: “We have decided to leak 100 addresses so that our brothers residing in America can deal with you.

“Kill them in their own lands, behead them in their own homes, stab them to death as they walk their streets thinking that they are safe.”

The defence department could not confirm the authenticity of the information the group uploaded, but said the military was investigating.

"I can't confirm the validity of the information, but we are looking into it," a US defence official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Marine Corps spokesman Lieutenant Colonel John Caldwell said: “The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is conducting in person notifications to the affected navy and marine personnel regarding this presently unverified threat/data breach.”

“It is recommended Marines and family members check their online/social footprint, ensuring privacy settings are adjusted to limit the amount of available personal information,” he added in a statement to the Blaze news website.

Even if the privacy settings are set a good hacker, which ISIS obviously has available is going to be able to get into the accounts.

ISIS is getting far too much, and I think drastic actions would have to be done be they as deadly as has never been in the history. They couldn't go on harming any further. They keep on destroying each pieces that make us of what we are today, the traces of history. It's not just the lives that are at stake here, but the trauma that they leave to the people who are still living. And if we don't resolve this issue, what face can we front in the next generation? ISIS has to be stopped right now!

While such threats should be given some serious consideration, I see this as more of IS propaganda to make people live in fear. Obviously some extremists might make an attempt on the lives of U.S military personnel or families but it is absurd to warn those who are targeted then hope that a jihadi will attack someone who knows "what's coming."
