I don’t think anyone here actually confirmed J-10 being part of acquisitions, Just an assumption throughout the thread.

However, I have an answer for your query, It all comes down to roles and not the No.of Platforms.

What I have guessed all along is that initially the main goal of J-15 is to provide Good Aerial EW Capabilities to Naval Ops Fleet such as Those in Masroor or Faisal. Apart from that, If more numbers are sought, Definitely to provide Air Superiority over Kashmir and Punjab.

J-10s, F-16s and Thunders will fall down to having similar roles, This is where I am confused.

All snide comments aside. if this does transpire in the next 3-4 months i-e
40 J10 , 45 J15 along with F16s. It changes the dynamics all together for PAF and IAF. Now IAF needs to counter Chinese from LAC to Arunchal Pradesh (hot border). but now PAF is no longer the headache for their Western air command but also they will have to re-position assets along the western ghats. They will be stretched thin for the next 5 years atleast until they beef up. Add 2 x SSN to the mix with one permanently in the Bay of Bengal (support by PLAN bases in Myanmar), you take care of their strategic depth

Their big size affords them the strategic depth, but it also requires a heck of lot more assets to defend as well

But what if India - hypothetically - gets 100 F-35s ? How would that change the balance? We may be working but so are the Indians.
