If they ever take delivery of one of these Frigates, which may never happen, they will easily be 6 to 7 billion each. They should cut bait. They could get real warships for less money. That's LM for you.
You could be right mtime7. Only time will tell. Unfortunately I believe we are far too much into this program to get out of it. The so called National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) that has been toughted by the government is in real danger of falling apart. WHAT A MESS!!If they ever take delivery of one of these Frigates, which may never happen, they will easily be 6 to 7 billion each. They should cut bait. They could get real warships for less money. That's LM for you.
Don't know mtime7 where you are getting your information from, but the AN/SPY 7 V1/V2 is definitely a Naval radar. It will be fitted (so far) on the Spanish F110 Frigate, possibly the new Japanese Frigate as well as the Canadian CSC Frigate. To say it is not a Naval radar is just not true (the AN designation makes it so). For your education, the SPY 6 AMDR is much too heavy a radar for the CSC Frigate's main mast and was never even considered because of that problem. It would make the mast much too top-heavy. Besides, LM has indicated that the AN SPY 7 V1/V2 may out-perform the SPY 6 anyway. It's not even a naval radar, should have went with the spy6, the US is going to keep it up to date, the spy 7, (non naval radar) your on your own
Yes, the first radar that LM developed was a Land Based Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) radar specifically designed for the Japanese to counter any Ballistic Missile threats There is also one up in Alaska as well. Having said that, the SPY 7 V 1 radar was also developed by LM specifically for shipboard use and was designated by the USN as AN/SP7 V1. American Naval radar developments are fast moving so perhaps you haven't heard that the SPY 7 is now ready to go to sea. See below:yea, sure, it's a Lock mart radar, and they will tell you any kind of bull to sell you on it. If you haven't learned yet from the cost overruns, maybe eventually you guys will. Just because they call AN doesn't mean anything, it's a land based radar, that's the original design and as to my knowledge has not been certified for sea. Pay for it.
This radar would not be going on any of these Frigates if it wasn't ready. Especially with the Canadian government involved. Spain is buying 6 of the SPY 7s (One for testing/training ashore and 5 for the F110 Frigates at $622M CAD for all). Same for Canada but 16 in total at 1.63B CAD. Japan I believe for all their new Frigates (I believe they are building 20). This radar although not yet fitted on board is mature and "ready to go". The only thing missing is the crew training. As for the land version, Japan is thinking of putting them on platforms at sea (think oil rigs) so the land version is not dead yet.is it certified for Sea use? Or are you guys going to pay for that? Hell they probably gave it to the Spanish (Don't worry, Canada will pay the bills) and as for the Japanese, I think they are smart enough not to use it, even though they already bought them for land use, box em up and put them away
Every company wants to meet their "bottom line" and LM is no different. If you were to do just a little more research on the AN/SPY 7, it may surprise you. This purchase is not a "boondoggle" as you say and these radars will be the fitted on the CSC Frigates and probably out-perform the SPY 6 AMDR in years to come. Canada sometimes join American TGs and I know the USN is already envious of the CSC Frigate having this radar and can't wait for one to join their Carrier TGs. No arguments here, just plain facts..listen, I don't want to argue with you, it's boondoggle, which LM is famous for. Agree?
I wasn't talking about the radar. the whole purchase is a boondoggleEvery company wants to meet their "bottom line" and LM is no different.
