Let's just assume tomorrow we get approval for Block 70 F16s along with all the gadgets and everything on our wish list. What I am worried about is the Indian response.
They will show up in Washington for their Randi rona and demand F35 to counter these F16s. I have no doubt in my mind that after India's drama with China they will get full sympethaic ear in Congress and for sure will get approval for F35s.
Then what? How are we going to counter F35? what options we will have to match F35? As far as J20 is concerned it doesn't seem to be any where near the F35 capability.
The only way IAF could have got F35 was if they had gone on and selected F21, otherwise looking at the current circumstances I do not see F35 in IAF colors for the foreseeable future...

Or they intend to skip a generation
there is a backlog of orders of F35, countries which were involved in development of the plane are still waiting for the delivery, so its a big no for India....If India had said yes to F21 they would have one a big favor to Lockheed by moving the assembly plant to India, this favor could have landed them F35 for sure.

Makes sense but there's also the ones being produced for Turkey being currently handed off to USAF.

Hello, and welcome - thanks for your contribution. I can address the above points for you.

1) you would like to be hit up when the deal takes off the ground, regardless of aircraft being delivered - please note that, in that case, this deal is well and truly off the ground.

2) yes this deal has been in works for 5+ years

All the best.

Hi there, by taking off the ground I meant when the deal is officially signed.

Hi everyone,

This is my first-ever post on this blog, though I might add that I have been following this blog for years now without commenting. This thread however tempted me to finally jump into the pool. For the record, I'm an army brat and a Pakistani expat based in KL, Malaysia. Given my background, I've always been a defense enthusiast. Full disclosure, I do carry an unconventional approach that may often not go with crowd thinking and I also often find it hard to find the soft words to put my point through. Apologies in advance, it's just how things process up there. No offense to anyone.

So please, as a newbie, maybe go easy on me?

Coming to the point.

While everyone is afixed on Kekra, it seems people have completely missed the former CJS Zubair Hayat remarks of 200Bn proven reserves in Wazirstan alone. He made those remarks when he was still active duty. No one seems to know about it.

As for the "lastest" F-Solaz are concerned, this is just a wishful thinking let alone the numbers being discussed here. Please do come hit me up when the deal actually takes off the ground and I'm not even talking about the AC getting delivered. If the PAF is still looking into such deal then sadly the F-16 obssesed babaz of the PAF have learnt nothing from 90's crap. I wont even go into how we'll be funding this project, but for a number this high and active orders with LM, this deal will probably take 5-years to complete if the deal were to happen today. If anyone believes that Pak will be able to keep the Americans stuck in Afghanistan (which is the only edge it has as of now) for this long is completely living in a fools paradise. The Americans never remain cozy forever, and certainly not when they do not have any interest. In fact, I expect them to put Paksitan under immense sanctions once they have completely vacated Afghanistan. If for some reason the deal does get through but somehwere down the road sanctions are placed witihin this span it would be 90's all over again.

As the saying goes: Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

It would be an utter embarrasment for the PAF to be fooled twice. This old-school baba g approach of the love for F-16s has to go for good. The best they must do, however, is to collect as many spares for their existing fleet of F-16s and look elsewhere. Though costly, this approach will give them a safety net they did not have in the 90's.
Welcome to the Forum,

I meant no offense with my previous post of not bothering to read the rest after the first line, Due to on ground realities I am aware of (MoD report), Also that PAC is a surprisingly amazing organization, And if they say they will make AZM, They mean it.

Kindly hit the MoD report up to understand what I am implying here, AZM is a happening reality, Definitely PAF might have 100% intentions to get help from China or elsewhere for the platform and related systems as alone PAF can’t get into such league directly. So when ever you think AZM won’t happen, Just remember that PIC in which ACM Sohail Aman recieves a sovenir FC-31 model from SAC.

Allah knows the best !!

I didn’t bother to read after first line

I would like to use @Mastankhan way of dealing with such comments,

Project Azm IMHO is nothing but another PAF wet dream.

"only if you could know what I know, only if you had seen what I have seen, you wouldn't be saying such immature stuff. It is an insult to those young & senior lads working their a***s off from 8 to 4; at times even more; to declare Azm a wet dream. You need to read\learn before you speak\write. Those doing research in labs outside PAC for Azm would love to give you a good reply calling their efforts a wet dream"

I could go on but I think you get the point.
