Since the Supermarine Attacker, the PAF has generally ordered new top-grade fighters every 10 years: e.g., Mirage III (late 1960s); Mirage 5 (late-1970s); F-16s (early 1980s); F-16s (late 1980s); F-16s (mid-2000s). The 1950s was US aid, the 1990s were sunk due to a mix of corruption, lack of funding and economic issues, and the 2010s were sunk for mostly the same reasons. But the 2010s also saw the induction of the JF-17, so we're looking at a mixed bag here. Now, we're looking at the 2020s.
