The immediate call is " to fill the gap" for "both" ...as rightly said by @Khafee.....SU-57 is far away.

For PAF the other option was J-10C but recently appeared interview of AM Shahid Lateef ...defuses this possibility as he said J-10 was evaluated and we found some 50 performance parameters not up to the mark.

so the current situation is:

SU-35......undecided
J-10C........initial assessment....NO
EFT............high probability of NO from OEM.
F-16..........US Govt. conditions not in favour of PAF.
Just to keep the record straight I would like to add for interest of readers that retired AVM Shahid Lateef was commenting about J-10A version of J-10 series, later version which was J-10B not only had satisfactory performance but at one point was seriously considered by PAF top brass for induction in PAF

So the options are reduced to SU or J.... The discussion will now be more specific.
If we consider Turkish factor the result would be SU......not that simple.... I guess

Hi

There is a reason US offered the F35 to Turkey one more time.
It to sabotage the sale of su35.
Paf will be left holding an empty bag.
They need to re-assess the J10ce and use their claim of fame turning goid product into an excellent product.

My statement was in context to Turkey not PAF...

Its not that simple Any new platform would take at least 3 years for induction and then 3-5 years more for proper integration with PAF infrastructure of HR training, construction and development of support infrastructure at number of air bases, weapon integration testing and trainings with new platform and strategy formulation all will take time and additional finances for these operations

Other than this in my understanding (which may be wrong) PAF need something which can complement F-16 in terms of avionics and weapon package rather to play a role of alternative of F-16 and at the same time give flexibility and freedom of weapon integration of our choice

Again I may be totally wrong in my reading and understanding of PAF approach in terms third platform

The basic issue is this...the PAF needs a strike capable platform. The F-16s will accompany said new platform for offensive missions as escorts (as they have for the JF-17 and Mirage). ACM Tanvir had settled on the FC-20, and we bailed on it due to a lack of funds. If anything, if there's really a new jet on the way, it'd be J-10CE.

And there are some common sense reasons for the J-10CE too, besides having the lowest sticker price. For one, immediate integration with a Chinese supersonic AShM, and probable help for H2/H4 and Ra'ad integration. Can also pool PL-15E and PL-10E orders for Block 3 and J-10CE in one big bucket.

And no redundancy in the future with Azm, which would be in a different class entirely (twin engine, stealth, supercruise, etc).

In 2016, Jane's said the PAF's interim fighter (ahead of the FGFA) had boiled down to the J-10 or Su-35.

Now, as broke as Pakistan is, I do think Beijing would extend an EXIM loan for the J-10CE, as they probably had for the Type 054A/P and Hangor. And to be frank, with CPEC's private investment, Pak has some leverage to ask for discounts and credit for it has to guarantee ROI on CPEC projects.

This is one of those situations where either (1) China isn't really ready to sell the J-10CE or (2) like the Hangor and Type 054A/P, both sides will spring a contract out of nowhere.

J-20 is not available for export. Reported J-31 is what we may get, if we wanted to. Project Azm may have a lot of input from J-31 project.
