1.1B USD in 1981 was a lot of money nothing Paltry about it.
Follow up Peace Gate 3/4 were funded by Pakistan. Was supposed to be ~ 2 B for 78 additional fighters. Pakistan had paid 627M of the total amount and 22 aircraft were already built when pressler sanctions kicked in. The aircraft were mothballed at Davis Mothan AFB Arizona.
We were paid back in soyabeans at inflated prices.

PAKISTAN AGREES TO A U.S. AID PLAN AND F-16 DELIVERY (Published 1981)

Pakistan announced today that it had formally agreed to a six-year, $3.2 billion military and economic aid package offered by the United States. The agreement came after the Reagan Administration had worked out a plan to speed delivery of F-16 fighter planes that Pakistan is to purchase in a separate deal.
The two developments were made known by the State Department and the Pakistani Embassy on the eve of a hearing tomorrow by the House Foreign Affairs Commi ttee at which the Administration will present arguments for ending a ban on aid to Pakistan even though Pakistan refuses to ru le out developing the ability to explode nuclear devices. Curr ent law bans aid to Pakistan because of its unmonitored nuclear progr am but does not ban the purchase of American military equipment for cash.
The proposed six-year aid package is divided evenly between economic grants and military sales credits. Though it is separate from the F-16 sale, Pakistan had delayed acceptance of the aid package because it was unhappy with the schedule for delivery of F-16's. Pakistan will have to pay $1.1 billion in cash for 40 of the advanced fighters. Saudi Arabia is expected to help pay for the planes. To Step Up Production
State Department officials said today that an unusual arrangement had been worked out to meet Pakistan's concerns on F-16 delivery. Belgium and the Netherlands, which co-produce the General Dynamics plane, have agreed to step up their production and divert F-16's to the United States Air Force. This will allow the United States to provide Pakistan with six of the 40 promised F-16's within a year of the signing of a formal contract. General Dynamics in the United States is behind in production and delivery of the planes to the United States Air Force.

Under Secretary of State James L. Buckley last week worked out the final details of the F-16 delivery and the aid package while in Pakistan, officials said.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued in Islamabad today, said that ''during his recent visit, Mr. Buckley clarified issues to our satisfaction.'' Zia Given Reagan Letter
The Pakistanis said Mr. Buckley had given P resident Mohammad Zia ul-Haq a personal letter from President Reaga n affirming American acceptance of Pakistan's policies and stating that the United States recognized Pakistan's refusal to become linke d in any kind of security alliance with the United States.

Sir in this worst economic condition, when Pakistan government still in Iranian lap.which country do you think is paying for J-10CP, T-54AP , HQ-9 and VT-4. Do you believe every thing is coming on credit or we have the backbone to pay this bill. That Modi lover is paying on our behalf.and their love for modi is only business relationship. Why is Saudi demanding 4% of interest which is heavy vis-a-vis IMF/WB rates. And I don't think Pakistan is in Iranian lap, if this being the case, Saudi wont deal with Pakistan as for as the help is concerned.

Pakistan bound to return Saudi Arabia's $3 billion loan within 72 hours of request: Report

In case of a sovereign default by Pakistan, the country would be asked to pay back the loan in 72 hours of a written request by Saudi Arabia.

The report also quoted Finance Ministry sources saying that the $3 billion cash facility has been secured at an interest rate of 4%. The rate is one-fourth times higher than the previous similar facility that Pakistan had obtained at a 3.2% interest rate, which means that Pakistan will pay $120 million interest on the loan.
